Tyrrell best in State/ 2008 Award Recipients

Rockingham Rugby Union Club’s Ryan Tyrrell has been voted Western Australian fairest and best player for the 2008 season.

At the RugbyWA presentation night held at Burswood recently, Tyrrell received the prestigious award to a standing ovation from assembled clubs and RugbyWA management.

This caps a fantastic year for Tyrrell who was by far the most outstanding player in the Premier grade competition with his trademark barging runs, devastating tackling and team leadership.

After losing most of the 2007 season due to a  foot injury, which also meant he was no longer able to take his place in the Western Force Academy, Ryan turned down offers to play in Europe so he could put in a good season at Rockingham.

An injury free run and complete dedication to his chosen sport, has taken Ryan to the top level of rugby in WA once again.

Geoff Minson, also from the Rockingham club polled very well in the fairest and best awards also.

Tyrrell’s recognition has topped off a great year for the Rockingham Club.

The Premier side have moved two spots up the ladder and pushed close to finals contention, they were only one of two teams to defeat the eventual Grand Final winners Kalamunda, and they defeated Nedlands at their home ground for the first time in the club’s history.

Prop Kieran Longbottom signed a fulltime professional Western Force contract, Brendan O’Dea was included in the Western Force academy and both Longbottom and James Dougal toured England with the Western Force.

The club also received the Most Hospitable Club award from the Western Australian Rugby Referees Association.

Welcome to the website for the Rockingham Rugby Union Football Club.

Our Club was established in 1972 by a dedicated group of rugby fanatics who had moved into the beautiful coastal town of Rockingham, and found that the nearest club was about 30km's away.  They set about forming a new rugby club and 35 years later we have moved on to a fabulous clubhouse facility at the Lark Hill Sporting Complex, and have one of the best supported clubs in Western Australia.

Our intention is to keep this site current and informative. We welcome your contributions through the email contact.
